July 29, 2009 – ERF Wireless, a broadband wireless product and service company, recently upped the technical staff and manufacturing at its League City headquarters. Specifically, the company moved the manufacturing and testing of CryptoVue, a network security system primarily marketed to the banking industry.
Originally, the CryptoVue team was located in a facility in Taylor, Texas. ERF moved most of that team to League City to facilitate research and development and reduce expenses. The company had planned this move since acquiring CryptoVue three years ago; the wait was part of the purchase agreement.
"ERF Wireless has acquired 15 companies over the past four years and has moved all of the administrative functions of these companies to League City," said Dr. H. Dean Cubley, chairman and CEO of ERF. "Currently we have more than 40 employees in League City and are adding more every month. I believe that League City is an ideal location for our corporate headquarters and expect that our employee base will continue to reflect that fact."
Nearly 10 years ago, the League City Economic Development Corporation (LCEDC) assisted a company called Eagle Wireless. Eagle was moving out of Houston, and the LCEDC helped them find a 12,000-square-foot building in the South Shore Harbour Business Park.
Since then, Eagle expanded and changed its name to Eagle Broadband. In 2004, Dr. Cubley, a former CEO of Eagle, left to start ERF Wireless. He set up ERF's headquarters down the street from Eagle. Both companies are publicly traded and continue to operate in League City as they grow their business in the technology and telecomm industries.
