League City Welcomes First 'Green' Building
Economic Development team helps Associated Credit Union of Texas build environmentally friendly headquarters
League City's first LEED-certified building is underway. ACU of Texas has begun construction on a new 30,000-square-foot corporate headquarters and full-service branch located at Highway 96 (League City Parkway), near Interstate 45.
To aid the project, League City's Economic Development department coordinated a "fast-track" permitting process. The department is also helping ACU of Texas with "green construction" financial incentives and utility rebates. The city's Planning, Engineering and Building departments were key players in this area.
"We always want to encourage local companies to grow and improve. As ACU of Texas continues to experience phenomenal growth, we want to help and reward that process in any way we can," said Doug Frazior, League City's economic development coordinator. "But this is an opportunity to reduce our environmental impact at the same time. That's especially exciting for us."
The building will feature a number of energy-efficient and cost-saving features, including a reflective "cool roof" system, which reduces demand for cooling electric power by up to 10 percent. Speaking of A/C, the building's unit has been designed to circulate fresh air from outside, preventing stale air indoors.

State Honors League City Econ. Development
For the second year in a row, the EDC receives Economic Excellence Award
The Texas Economic Development Council (TEDC) has named the League City Economic Development Corporation as a recipient of its 2008 Economic Excellence Award. The award recognizes Texas economic development agencies that meet a high level of performance and professionalism.
League City’s Economic Development Corporation was one of only two similar organizations throughout the Houston metro area to receive the excellence award. It was the only agency representing the thirteen Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership member cities to be awarded.
Criteria used in evaluating economic development agencies included the effectiveness in carrying out the organization’s strategic plan, relationships with agency partners, and professional levels achieved by agency staff.

The Parkway to Extend to the Beltway
Extension of League City Parkway moving along well
Crews have nearly finished a major consruction project at SH 96 (League City Parkway) and Interstate 45. Once complete, a brand new intersection will greatly ease interstate access to and from a major east/west thoroughfare. This should open up considerable development opportunities.
The state’s master transportation plan has League City Parkway eventually connecting with SH 288 (and Beltway 8) by way of the forthcoming Friendswood Parkway and Pearland Parkway.

What People are Saying
"While we were planning our new 'green' headquarters, Associated Credit Union of Texas was impressed with the League City Economic Development Corp.’s efficiency and organization. They were able to streamline the process by bringing all necessary parties to the table at one meeting. It was nice to have everyone together, so that as questions came up, clear answers were given. Anyone who's been through the construction process knows — that is a huge help."
— Sherrie Bickford, ACU of Texas
