Message from Mayor Randall

Mayor RandallLeague City, the fastest growing city in the Houston Bay Area, is ready to provide the environment and the location services needed to encourage new business investment in 2010.

Our area’s diversified economic base includes more than 14,000 businesses in a range of industry clusters such as aerospace engineering, healthcare and biotechnology, petrochemical firms, information technology and communications.

Business location features include a well-educated and highly technical workforce, a convenient world-wide transportation network and a superior quality of life that has listed League City as “One of America’s Top 100 Smaller Cities”.

In the last few years, the City of League City has provided over $29,600,000 in business development incentives to successfully recruit companies that created $67 million in new investment and over 570 new jobs.

Take a look at what some of our top business CEOs say about League City:

  • "From my perspective, the League City area is business oriented and a tremendous environment for petrochemical service companies in the area to locate to.  Situated between Texas City and Houston it is an attractive area for new recruits and more mature workers alike as the geography encompasses a significant base of refining, petrochemical and plastics manufacturing facilities. Throw in a city government that understands and works with the business community and you have a great place to locate a business. It is why we chose to locate our main North American operational center here."
    – Dennis Seith - CEO Ineos Olefins and Polymers USA

  • “Our well educated population, our low cost of living, and our superior quality of life makes League City an ideal location for corporate offices”
    – Scott Luchesi, President and CEO – Garden State Life Insurance Company.

  • "Thanks again for your assistance in helping me to obtain my construction permit for the new tenant in my Two Harbour Square project, NuStar Energy. Because of the level of responsiveness provided by the City's Economic Development and Building Department, we will be able to deliver completed lease premises to this tenant in the next few weeks, and well ahead of our originally slated completion date."
    – Brian Yates, Brian Yates Interests

On behalf of the citizens and the business community of League City, I urge you to consider League City in your location or expansion plans in 2010.

Companies Take Advantage of League City’s Inventory Tax Exemption

Two League City companies, Keen Transport and Precious Formals, have seen significant tax savings on their inventory, due to the city’s Freeport Tax Exemption.

The Freeport Tax Exemption allows companies with significant inventory to be exempt from paying taxes on goods that are transported out of the state of Texas within 175 days of being acquired or produced.

Keen Transport – Needing access to Houston’s ship port facilities and Interstate 45, Keen Transport located in League City in 2000. The company receives, modifies and transports heavy construction equipment to locations both domestic and international. The City of League City and its Economic Development Corporation secured a 25 acre location for the company, provided sanitary wastewater facilities and offered the company the Freeport Tax Exemption. Keen Transport was recently designated a free trade zone and is currently in the process of expanding its facility.

“When we began looking to relocate our Houston-area offices, League City emerged quickly as a leading choice. In League City, we found easy access to Interstate 45, a short drive to the ports of Galveston and Houston, and a business-friendly city with a competitive package of incentives. It is qualities and amenities like these that have led us to expand our local operations as our business continues to grow in League City’s healthy economic climate.” – Keen Transport

Precious Formals – Department stores and formal wear retailers throughout the country purchase prom dresses and other formal accessories from Precious Formals in League City. The firm started in 1990, and has grown to a $10 million distribution business.

League City’s Freeport Tax Exemption provides a significant tool for Precious Formals to use in reducing its costs of doing business. The company has more than doubled its office warehouse facilities since it located in League City.

ERF Wireless Awarded
$4.7 Million Broadband Contract

League City based ERF Wireless announced recently that the company had secured a $4.7 million contract for wireless broadband services to companies in the oil and gas industry. (Click here to view the Vol. 1, Issue 2 for more information.)

The League City Economic Development Corporation assisted ERF Wireless (formerly Eagle Wireless) to locate in the South Shore Harbour area of League City.

Business Fire Insurance Rates Lower in League City

A reduction in fire insurance rates will soon be seen by businesses throughout League City. Recently the city’s fire insurance score was significantly lowered by the state’s official rating system. The fire insurance rate set for commercial and residential property owners is tied directly to the score generated by the state’s rating authority.
